The photos say it all. This is a gorgeous late 1950's early 1960's B. Altman & Company Fifth Ave. New York black cocktail dress in a perfect classic style. It's modest boat-neck front turns into a sensual deep scoop back. The dress has multiple seams and darts to create a very form fitting bustier that flares out from the waist down into a voluminous A-line (the hemline measures 60" atwa!) It has a sweet double bow at the center of the waist in the front. Princess kimono sleeves, elegant jewel length. The fabric has a considerable weight to it (possibly silk shantung or zibeline - no fabric label) and it is fully lined in lightweight black. The two layers give it a very rich, elegant feel. It has a 15" metal zipper at center of back. B. Altman & Co. had the reputation for gentility and conservatism. Customers could buy ready-to-wear or choose from the notable collection of imported fabrics to have a garment custom made. This dress is in MINT condition and is a true piece of NYC department store history.
Measurements: Bust 34" (darts so may accommodate up to 36") / Waist 26" / Back 15" / Hips 36" + A-line) / Sleeves 14" / Length 42" / Hemline 60" atwa
(The volume of the skirt has been taken in on a few of the seams, so it could actually have an even fuller skirt if so desired. There's also about 3" of hemline if you need it to be a bit longer it's an easy fix.)
PRICE: $325.00
