This is a fantastic vintage snake scale weighted mesh gold belt by Whiting & Davis. The Massachusetts company has been in business since 1876 and in 1912 is credited with inventing a machine to automate the mesh making process. I'm not certain when they first began making belts, but I did find an Ad in a 1959 Vogue showing a similar belt (see reference photo above). The buckle has a bit of a western flair to it. The belt has 5 holes and an adjustable slider loop to hold the end of the belt. Due to the scaled mesh, the belt has about a half inch of "give" to it. So fully stretched it measures 32.5" and can buckle from 23" to 28". Whiting & Davis signature engraved on back of buckle. This sort of belt has been a staple in fashion for centuries and is a must-have investment piece - see the gallery below to see how some modern celebrities style their favorite gold belt. This belt is in excellent condition, the slider works perfectly. Rarely, if ever, worn.
